The Stoning of Soraya M.

I watched, The Stoning of Soraya M. over the weekend, its a film that hasn't been as recognized as it should be, its won a few film festival awards but nothing major. This is unfortunate because the film is amazing! Its story, actors, scenes etc. are so real and moving. Everyone should watch this one! It def. at your heart, it will make you cry and wonder about the world we live in and the people we live with. There are some very explicit scenes in the film, especially the stoning itself.....I was speechless while watching it, horrified and in tears the entire time. If you are squirmish about watching blood and death, then dont watch it....but if you would like see a sad and unfortunate truth about the treatment of women in some parts of the world, then def. watch it! I hope that one would come out of watching it, knowing that it isnt about religion or anything of the sort but rather the idea that women are of lesser value then men. In my opinion? everyone should watch this film.

From Paris With Love

The director of "Taken" ruined his career by doing From Paris With Love, this movie adds to the list of stupid and pointless action flicks!! The only thing worth watching is Johnathan Rhys Meyers face, but his acting along with John Travolta's SUCKS! lol I kept starring at Travolta's goatee, it was soooo distracting and like in his last film, "Phelm 123" or w.e the heck it was called!

I think maybe he is going through a mid-life crisis?? He has this new look that includes a really horrible goatee and bald head, and does these really crappy films in which he cusses a lot and acts like a loon! :S Personally, I dont get it......at all :S I was falling asleep during this one, and I can make a beat that you will too! Please dont waste your life on it ;) lol

The poster is the best thing about the film, and completely misleading! lol

Brooklyn's Finest

Brooklyn's Finest, I can say a lot about this one people because I dont want to spoil anything, and trust me you dont want me to either! Wow! I haven't seen a cop movie this good in a while although movies like "Departed" come to mind :) The acting in this is wicked not to mention the all-star cast! Amazing storyline! The ending? well...all I'm going to say about that is......nothing.....not in a bad way, it was fantastic! It left me speechless :) Everyone should go watch this one, it is def. worth checking out!

Cirque du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant

Cirque du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant, I really hope the next one (as I have heard its a series) will be better than this one because it wasn't very good. It was an extremely basic storyline, very predictable, nothing too amazing or extra cool or even different for that matter. I dont know who would like this other than a few youngsters maybe around 12 or 13ish but even then I'm not so sure. If this has to compete with movies like Twilight it doesnt stand a chance, and in case your not a Twilight fan, it wouldn't stand a chance next to Harry Potter or Percy Jackson either lol. Watch it if you want but I wouldn't expect anything great from it. I was disappointed to be honest :S

Nine

Nine, you know...the movie getting big reviews? based on the broadway show? still dont know? well then look it up because I have no other way to describe it :S I really wish that I had seen it on the stage rather than on film because it probably didnt do it justice....Why are all the females getting praise for this movie? I dont know because each of them is in it for maybe 10 minutes :S It was forgettable to be honest, for me broadway doesnt translate right on screen......so this one totally wont stay in my memory bank :S Unless you like this sort of thing, dont bother! ;) The only thing good? the constumes and Daniel Day-Lewis's performance :)

Ninja Assassin

Ninja Assassin, I would like to deem this movie the BEST ninja movie I have seen in a very, very long time!! And if you like Ninja's you'll think the same thing! It has so much action, blood and guts, and crazy, wicked ninja moves!!! The characters were great, the story was great ( a little predictable but still great) and most of all the Ninja content was superb!! It even had a little bit of a love story in it, BUT you will be happy to know it didnt take over the movie ;) To be honest, it actually made me want to dress up like one and run around throwing ninja stars at people lol.

I loved it!!!! Everyone should def. watch this one!!! I have nothing else to say on the matter ;) lol

The Princess and the Frog

The Princess and the Frog, is a beautiful Disney film that perfectly embodies the feel and spirit of New Orleans and the magic of Disney! I love Walt Disney films and am a big fan of the Fairy Tale story! This movie had all the aspects of a perfect fairy tale, the unexpected love story, the comedy, the music, the magic and the happy ending :) I especially LOVED the "Little Mermaid" reference during the Mardi Gras parade, there was a giant King Triton (Ariels father, for those who dont know lol) with mermaids all around him :) AND the part where the Prince was Indian :) (does that imply that I'm indian? lol maybe ) BUT the fact that both lead characters were a minority was amazing and wonderful to see :) It was GREAT! ;) Any Disney fan MUST watch this, and of course buy it, lol. Loving Disney!

Shutter Island

The first thing I will say about Shutter Island is that Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio can't ever go wrong!!! This film will make your mind go on a journey, twists and turns make this an exciting and mysterious piece of art. I had a few ideas about what could be going on at Shutter Island but the majority of those ideas were thrown out the window. You stay at the edge of your seat in anticipation and wonder at what is going on in the film and just when you think you know, it throws you for a loop again! Weird, spooky and creepy corridors lead to mysterious and suspicious characters in this film and you will love it the entire way through. This is one film I would def. recommend people watch at the movies on a big screen! It adds to the effects!! The only thing that I was waiting for and kept waiting for was an untimate scare BUT this isnt that type of movie (trailers can be somewhat misleading), this film is suspense and mystery at its best!! Bravo Martin and Leonardo! We all know they are great, now watch them at work once again!! Watch this one people!!!!

Legion

Legion, another movie about the end of the world and mankind at the hands of our angry God. A single baby is our savior and a rebellious angel has defied God to come save the child who will grow up to save us all. :S The cheesy part is......it starts off with Micheal falling from grace and breaking and entering to steal weapons and then busting through a wall to get out...where was the front door? BUT the cheesy part? explosion through the wall.....was in a cross shape :S....eya :S

A predictable plot once it starts although the trailers might have you think its a lot more exciting or "scary" than it is.......its supposed to be a horror-action film but is anything but. Action? you mean the loads of bullets used to kill the angels dressed up as demons? horror?......I supposed thats for the creepy demons that run along the roof lol or scream and wiggle their heads around in really trippy ways :S lol or the weird bugs? what did they even have to do with the movie? :S

The only thing cool about this movie is the cast and the wings on Micheal and Gabriels backs :) (yes, the arch-angels) I think if I was a follower, I might even be offended at this new twist on judgement day, otherwise I dont really care. It wasn't very good, especially when compared to movies of the same genre. An average movie, dont you dare waste your money watching it at the movies! You'll be really annoyed! ;) I wont remember this one and I doubt you would either ;)

Edge of Darkness

This movie, Edge of Darkness, is an adaptation of a British TV series that is apparently a cult hit and has won several BAFTA's (British Academy of Film and Television Arts). Aside from this, it is also supposed to be Mel Gibson's comback movie after a 8 year hiatus from film-making and acting. WELL......I can start by saying I like Mel Gibson, I like the way he directs, afterall my favorite movie of all time is a Mel Gibson movie (Brave Heart). BUT......this one wasn't as amazing, actually I was a bit disappointed in it :S He's a great actor, but for some reason his Boston accent kept bothering me lol I have no idea why :S The movie itself had a good amount of action and drama in it but I couldnt help thinking it was very similar to other films he's done, like Ransom (which was a good film). It does however have a somewhat decent plot, BUT it was one of those plots that you can almost predict about a quarter of the way in :S which sucks. Overall, it wasn't very good, it was very average, somewhat predictable, and sometimes not believable :S To be completely honest, I went to do the review and couldnt remember the title of the movie for a few moments :S until I looked it up online lol. Yeah. So.....don't bother, unless your really into movies like this. Family member murdered, crazy detective tries to figure it out, kills people, gets beat up, cries and yells, drama, sad music, action, somewhat predictable conclusion and incredibly cheesy ending. Have fun! lol It was not a good comeback for my friend Mel.

Fantastic Mr. Fox

I watched Fantastic Mr. Fox the other day and to my surprise I don't have much of a review. I expected it to be one thing (having not read the book) but it turned out to be another. It wasn't as funny as I thought it would be, although "Ash" was pretty sarcastic and witty, which I liked. I suppose he was my favorite character, the outcast, Mr. Fox however......not so cool :S well maybe for a fox I guess but thats it. There were some boring scenes and some good ones, some not so funny jokes and some funny ones (but not laugh out loud funny). Mostly the most exciting parts about this movie were simply the animation, it was really something to watch the characters and the way they moved about. Personally I think Stop-motion animation is really cool, not very many directors use it now a day but they should! The second thing that got me everytime they said it was "cuss", it was pretty "cussing" cool! lol :) The movie is based on a childrens book and thats who will probably enjoy it more! Rent it for your kids or watch it yourself, just not at the theatres!

The Cove

I def. wanted to do a review of The Cove as it has easily become one of my favorite documentary films! It is up for an Oscar for Best Feature Documentary and deserves all the praise it gets. The film itself has a very simple message and a message that doesn't seem to get across to the world so easily! I watched this documentary knowing that the footage they caught would be difficult to watch at the least but what I saw was simply horrible. The film-makers do an amazing job of capturing what the world needs to know and putting it onto the screen for everyone to see. I encourage everyone to rent this one and watch it, teach yourselves something new about what goes on in the world, pass on the word and teach others as well. Anyone watching this film will be outraged at the worlds "brush it off and egnore it" mentality and it will truely piss you off. Anyone who doesn't feel some bit of sadness inside watching this film is emotionally capped or something, because its fantastic.

As you can tell, I love this film!! I really do tell everyone to watch it!! SO go watch it!!! ;)

Hurt Locker

So I wanted to do a review of The Hurt Locker mostly because of all the mixed reviews I was hearing from other people. To be honest my significant other thought it sucked :S DONT ask me how he thought that, he just did. The thing about this film is that it isn't your typical holloywood war movie with loud noises, bombs blowing up and dramatic music everytime a character turns the corner. Its a simple film about a specific type of soldier, the type you don't really pay much attention to or even know much about. If I'm honest.....I didn't even know they had groups of soldiers that just went around disarming bombs over there. The film is great in my opinion, its simple and you have to respect it for that, no magic just raw emotion and action. There are some scenes that make you cringe at the thought and trying to put yourself in the soldiers shoes is impossible, these guys handle pressure like pro's. This movie is simple, well put together and beautiful in its honesty.

Even still despite its 9 academy award nominations (all well deserved!), I don't know about "Best Picture" nominations.......it was a great film.....but I'm pretty sure it wasn't the best....BUT you should still def. go see it!!!

Anyone know what "Hurt Locker" is meant to stand for? I have my opinions and guesses....do you? ;)

**********
Ah yes, Coyote writing in again. I've been on an extended break, but I'm back at it. I figure I would review this small-time flick that made a huge splash last year (and will surely make a bigger splash after the Oscars are over). The film, in its most basic summary, is about a group of soldiers in the Middle East who are assigned the task of detonating bombs. The film follows their trials and tribulations, and the film opts for mounting, gripping tension as opposed to big, loud shootouts, and that's precisely what makes this war drama unique and highly memorable. The film perfectly explores the emotional instability a soldier can experience, and provides an arguably more realistic vision of war. Like Phoenix mentioned, this movie is simple, raw and just plain honest.

Verdict: See it.

The Wolfman

So yesterday, I went to watch Wolfman with a few friends, including Coyote and we came out with two completely different opinions about it. I know what he thinks but here is what I thought.

Okay...so it wasn't the best movie ever made, but what do you really expect from a "wolfman" movie? you can't expect it to have some crazy looking wolves in it, can you? Well it takes place back in the day so, when I thought about it, this is probably what I would have expected and it was. Despite the fact that Anthony Hopkins looks like Chewbacca from StarWars, it was still pretty good for a wolfman movie, lol. Well anyways, I thought it was pretty good. There was a lot of action, and blood and guts (literally), romance, suspense and the stupid little scares that girls like.....I am a girl after all ;)

Anyways, I thought this one was pretty good, if your going to watch it at the movies, please dont go in there expecting the effects from Avatar lol, lets be realistic everyone! Its a Wolfman movie lol ;)

**********
A movie with Benicio Del Toro, Anthony Hopkins, and Hugo Weaving (you know, the Agent from The Matrix) would appear to be nothing short of great, but then again, appearances can be decieving. And "The Wolfman" isn't much of a looker. This is Coyote writing in, and I had the chance to catch this "upgrade" of the 1941 version with fellow critic Phoenix. Of course, we both walked away with different impressions. The central problem with "The Wolfman" is that the movie doesn't give us any reason to care for any of the characters (or story, for that matter). Some of this can be attributed to its lack of character development, but most of it has to do with the film taking itself too seriously. Of course, like Phoenix mentioned, this movie isn't meant to be taken too seriously to begin with, but it makes it hard when the movie itself seems so intent on doing exactly the opposite. The mood is, well, moody, and Emily Blunt is mostly useless (I hope the studios are at least putting her on the movie posters). And really, what is with Anthony Hopkins looking like Chewbacca? And the best the movie can muster up for his Wolfman transformation is that he got bit by a Gollum look-a-like in a cave? REALLY? Ugh. On top of that, the movie seems to compensate for its long, boring scenes with occasional cheap scares (things popping out of nowhere, characters seeing things that aren't really there, more things popping out of nowhere). Yawn. With that said, the sets are very nice, and the director does a good job of making the viewer feel that they are in a certain time period (don't ask me what time period this is set in. I wasn't paying THAT much attention).

Verdict: Pass it by.

This wolf's got no bite (but it does have the same fangs that I once used for my Halloween costume when I was 10).

-Coyote

I suppose I can agree with most of what Coyote says lol, so no real arguments there! and I wont sit here and name the thing I disagree with because there are some things that I really liked and things I hated as well.

Hello Everyone!

Hi Everyone,

So thats the end of the previous reviews I've done, from this blog start date on wards will be new and fresh reviews. You will probably notice Coyote come on and say his two cents about all my reviews, lol which should be fun! So I hope you enjoy the future of movie reviews lol at least as much as I enjoy writing them ;)

Yes, I know I went crazy today and did a thousand posts lol but thats what blogging is for, right? lol

The Book of Eli

Okay, I don't want anyone to get the wrong impression of me, I'm not really an athiest, I just haven't found faith yet...maybe one day I will but who knows....One thing I can say about The Book of Eli is that its really pretty good. The idea of faith, hope and belief in a higher power is the stage and Denzel carries the message. If a movie can make someone want to believe then its probably done its job. I came out of the movies thinking about how it would feel if faith and hope were for something, unfortunately for me? the thought didn't last very long, lol. Despite this, I would recommend this movie :)

~ Phoenix

Up In The Air

I can't say much, Up In The Air was really long, and pretty boring to be honest. Actually if I think about it, I don't get what the hype was about, it was average at best. Sadly disappointed in this one, I thought because George was in it....well I don't know what I thought....but I was wrong lol.

~ Phoenix

Sherlock Holmes

I have to say that the actors in Sherlock Holmes, Robert Downey Jr., Rachel McAdams and Jude Law are the best thing about this movie. Their acting was great, the story was a bit lacking, the effects and stunts were amazing but the movie itself was reallllllllllly slow, it was wayyyy to long and they could have done a better job. Still it was decent, not pretty decent, just decent. ;)

Don't watch it at the movies ;) just rent this one! Unless of course you would like to see Robert Downey Jr.'s amazing abs larger and more in your face than on your regular television screen! ;) Hellooo!!

~ Phoenix

The Lovely Bones

I was really looking forward to The Lovely Bones because I had heard that the book was amazing but once again I was sadly disappointed by hollywood's idea that they can do justice to a great novel. It was good.....sort of.....boring....yes....slow?....yes.....and then thats about it...... Does it deserve the praise? ummm....probably not. :)

BUT I will say that Stanely Tucci was amazingly creepy lol ;) This is not the face of just some nice old lonely neighbour who builds doll houses by himself :S LOL Don't ever talk to strangers kids!!!

~ Phoenix

Avatar

All I have to say about Avatar is that it was EPIC! The technology that was behind this amazing film was out of this world, the acting was great, the story was great, the filmography was great! Everything was great! This is def. a movie to remember people! If you haven't seen it, I will assume you've been living under a rock!!! ;)

~ Phoenix
**********
Epic movie indeed. At least from a technical standpoint. Sure, the movie has its cheesy lines, nothing-new storyline, but then again, who cares? The movie is solely meant to be enjoyed for the visual world James Cameron creates, and not so much for its storyline. On a sidenote, Zoey Saldana is excellent as Neytiri, the Na'vi warrior who Jake (Sam Worthington) falls in love with. This is indeed one movie that lives up to the "15-years in the making" hype. At almost 3 hours long, it goes by quite quickly. If you haven't seen this movie yet, then either a) go see this movie, or b) go see this movie.

Verdict: See this movie.

"SEE THIS MOVIE. RAWR!"

-Coyote

Precious

Precious had so much hype behind it because of the novel is was based on, "Push" By Sapphire. Unfortunately once again I think the hype took over a little. Don't get me wrong though the actors were amazing, the story was amazing but was it AS good as people said it would be? ummm.....not really. It was still great just not as great as I thought it would be. There are some really tough scenes in the film that send a chilling message and bring some real tears to your eyes and if you don't know this side of the world, I dont know where you've been living all this time. An excellent film, just don't go in thinking its the best thing thats come along, because it isn't. ;)

~ Phoenix
**********
Coyote writing in, and Coyote totally agreeing with fellow Phoenix. This movie is good. And that's about it. Yes, it's emotional, but it's also- wait for it- ...overhyped. Not too surprising, I suppose. People will overhype anything Oprah signs her name off on. The lead character who plays Precious does a great job of balancing vulnerability with a mere shell of strength. Her permanent scowl in the film only hides how broken she really is on the inside. Mon'ique plays a disturbing mother, and plays it with chilling conviction. This movie is highly-disturbing, and yes, Mariah Carey is pretty good, but not Oscar good. Worth seeing. And that's about it.

Verdict: See it.

Yes, that's Mimi

New Moon

Okay, I'm not going to sit here and lie, say that I'm not a Twilight fan because I def. am one...well some of my friends might say I am more than just a fan, BUT I will say that there is a difference between being a fan of the books and a fan of the movies. The books are excellent, the movies? unfortunately like every book that gets converted to a film, it usually follows with some disappointment. In this case I can say New Moon was better than the Twilight film, much better. There were better effects, more action and better acting as well, which I guess comes along with a bigger budget and better director, but either way it was better. Don't get this mistaken though, I've seen better vampire movies in my life, Lost Boys, Dracula etc. but for this type of vampire novel they did a pretty decent job. Although I don't recommend watching the movies if you haven't read the books or aren't a fan of them because you probably won't be riding off the high of reading the novels. ;) Which also means you wont be able to get over the glitter thing, and the nakedness that people seem to hate, but then again you could be one of the thousands of girls or women that love it, LOL ;)

~ Phoenix

Invictus

Unfortunately for this great compelling story, I probably won't remember Invictus for much longer. Despite what amazing performances the actors gave, it just wasn't as great as I thought it would be......too much hype I guess. This ones probably more of a rental if anything, but don't expect it to be one of your favorites :) Personally...I can't seem to get over Matt Damon's shorts lol ;)

~ Phoenix

Daybreakers

I'm sure that the majority of you don't even know this movie, Daybreakers, and its probably because I don't think it was at the movies for very long. All I have to say is that as a vampire genre fan I was sadly disappointed in this movie. It had a great story and the idea was different and interesting but unfortunately for the great cast, it failed! (Don't ask me how it got 2 Academy Award Nominations, I have no clue)I hope that maybe ten years down the road they try to do this one right lol Don't bother watching it guys... wasn't very good BUT if you do decide to watch it prepare yourself for an increadibly stupid ending ;) The movie doesn't do justice to the trailer they released......sad, I know.

~ Phoenix

The Road

I had heard some mixed reviews about The Road but still went in with a clear mind. To be honest, I thought it was pretty good, the story was simple, complicated but nothing too extraordinary, but the acting was just that, extraordinary! Vigo does a great job of telling this amazing and heroic story about survival and humanity. Although some parts might be a bit creepy to watch, it does leave you with a sense of hope in mankind. I can actually imagine how great the Pulitzer Prize winning novel must be, and to be honest I might just go buy it and give it a read :)

~ Phoenix

The Messenger

The Messenger looks at a side of war that people rarely focus on, the side of war that leaves families broken and loved ones dead. Its a side that hurts to watch and this movie did a great job of showing what its like to be on the other side, and what its like to deliver the sad news. The Messenger is an excellent movie, with an excellent message, a movie that one should definently watch. ;)

~ Phoenix

2012

2012 isn't very hard to review, you could probably give it one without even watching it, lol. Does that mean it sucked? yes, I guess it does, but then again what disaster movie actually gets good ratings? Don't bother watching it, your not missing anything....well other than the precious hour/minutes of your life. It is NOT "the number one movie in the world" as it so boldly states in the trailers lol. I did hear that some people actually love disaster movies?? People are actually going nuts about the world ending and hollywood is making money off that fear BUT keep in mind that all those scared people are going out and watching stupid movies like this one, LOL. John Cusack, I am very disappointed ;)

2012 = The Day After Tomorrow Part 2. 'Nuff said.
